Beginning / Intermediate Chorus
Goals:
Class Guidelines:
CLASSROOM SUPPLIES:
Always have the following things with you when you come to class.
Performance grades are given on a point system. By being there and performing appropriately, you automatically receive 100 for that concert. If you talk, chew gum, or distract the audience or other members of the group, points will be taken away.
MISSED CONCERTS must be made up in the form of a research project of my choosing: You will not receive an “A” for any concert made up. The highest possible makeup grade will be a “B” (you can never make up the effect your absence made on the performance). If you have a doctor's note to excuse you from the concert then you may complete the make up assignment for the full 100.
CONCERT DRESS:
All Black:
Women: Black pants and black blouse that match in shade, or a black dress at least knee length.
Men: Black pants and black button up. Belt and black shoes with black socks.
GRADING:
Final Exam: The final exam is worth 20% of the semester final grade. If a student is excused from the exam they will automatically receive a 100. Students who do not meet school guidelines for exam excuse or if they miss a concert without an excusable reason will be required to take the exam.
FIELD TRIPS:
In order to participate in field trips (out-of-school performances, contests, workshops, etc), you must :
Dinner Theater:
Each year at West for our last concert we put on a dinner theater. This is a required concert. Students are expected to be there for each rehearsal and performance.
- Demonstrate correct use of the vocal instrument.
- Improve individual vocal control and intonation.
- Learn about music theory, ear training, and sight-reading..
- Learn about music history and music in today's society.
Class Guidelines:
- CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR: Always Participate! Always be respectful of the teacher(s), staff, and fellow students. Insubordination or foul language will NOT be tolerated. Follow all instructions, as given by the teacher and/or staff.
- TALKING IN CLASS: The rule is: When the teacher is at the podium, at the piano, or working with other students in the classroom, there is no talking. When the teacher is working with other students, follow your music and be prepared to enter singing at a moment’s notice. You may be given breaks during which you may talk and move around. You may be given permission to talk in your seats by the teacher or staff. But be prepared to come back together on the directors cue.
- Be Prepared: Always be prepared for class by having a pencil, paper, water (if you need it), and your numbered music folder. Mark your music ONLY IN PENCIL. All measures should be numbered by the second rehearsal of each piece. Write in the margins and above/below notes so you will understand what to do.
- RESPECT YOUR MUSIC AND THE CLASSROOM. When a piece is completed, it should look as it did when you received it. When a piece of music is completed, erase all marks prior to turning it in. You are responsible for your music. At the end of the semester, any marks or damage not noted by the teacher when music was given to you, will be considered grounds for charging you for replacing that piece of music. All music must be returned or you will be charged for its replacement. LEAVE THE CLASSROOM AS YOU FOUND IT. Before leaving, always check under and around your seat to make sure no paper or debris is left on the floor or in the chairs.
- RESTROOM PRIVILEGES: The restroom is right outside our room and no other restroom should be used, stay in the music building. Only ONE PERSON at a time shall use the pass. You must sign out on the clipboard each time you go to the restroom. Do not abuse this privilege or we will lose the privilege.
- NO FOOD, BEVERAGES, or GUM in the classroom. NO WARNINGS! Bottled water only.
- BE HERE! You may have 2 excused absences in this class. Unless you have a special circumstance preventing you from being in school, you must be here the day of a concert to perform. If you are in OSS the day of performance, you will not be allowed to perform OR attend the concert (per Student Handbook). Each unexcused absence from class or performances will affect your final grade.
- TARDIES: Tardies consist of not being ready for class when the bell rings. If you are out of your seat when the bell rings, you are considered tardy. Arriving in the classroom late or leaving the classroom at any time prior to the end of class constitutes a tardy (only exception = excused office note or being called to the office). 3 tardies equals 1 absence.
